Many respected professional game and clay target shooting instructors, although highly qualified by experience and knowledge, hold no formal qualifications.

When APSI was first established in 1997 the purpose was to provide formal recognition for these skilled instructors in the first instance, and to encourage instructors to build on these skills by further suitable training and ongoing recognition of skills.

Part of this mechanism is the wish of the APSI to work with other suitable elements of the shooting industry. Very recently APSI has formed an alliance with FITASC, providing the Federation with instructor courses Levels 1, 2 and 3.
